Vehicle accidents are a major cause of fuel and oil spills on local roadways and the surrounding ecosystems. When we receive a call that a vehicle is leaking hazardous fluid after an accident, we respond quickly.
That’s what we did for this dump truck spill recovery after the truck collided with a minivan and flew off the road, down an embankment and into the forest. This recovery required fast action so we could return the roadway to traffic and minimize environmental damage.
Dump Truck In, Dump Truck Out
Unfortunately, this heavy dump truck went off the road and over a metal guardrail, plummeting 150 feet down a steep embankment. It was wedged in the trees and made a big mess in the moss-covered forest. Before we could tackle the spill recovery, our heavy truck towing division had to lift out the dump.
First, we ensured the spill was contained so we couldn’t leave a trail of fuel up and over the ditch. Then, Team Pro-Tow carefully rigged up the dump truck and used the crane-style wrecker to slowly pull it back up to the road. Once it was up and out, Pro-Tow safely removed it and the damaged minivan from the scene.
Dump Truck Spill Recovery
Once the truck was gone, Team Pro-Enviro could get at the mess it left behind. Unfortunately, both vehicles sustained damage and left debris all over the road. The dump truck also left a trail of debris down its path of destruction, and the guard rail was in pieces. We got to work hauling out debris and sweeping up the road.
The metal guard rail was likely responsible for splitting the dump’s fuel tank. We worked tirelessly to perform a thorough spill recovery of the scene and clean up the contaminated areas. Once that was done according to the recovery plan, we could open up the road to traffic.
