On June 11, 2021, Team Pro-Enviro and Pro-Tow were called to the scene of an accident that involved a commercial box truck. This box truck fell into a ditch and caused damage to the cab and the fuel tank. This resulted in a significant fuel spill inside the ditch and its surrounding areas.
Reporting Hazardous Fluid Spills
Under Washington State regulations, when there is a hazardous waste spill, you must use the skills of a state-approved primary response contractor, like Pro-Enviro. It’s imperative that all spills are properly reported and that the spill is stopped, contained and hazardous materials are disposed of safely. Washington State rules note that there is no penalty for reporting a spill, but it could lead to significant penalties if a spill is not reported.
Pro-Enviro Gets to Work on the Spill-Recovery
At Pro-Enviro, our professionally trained team was ready to get to work and clean up this spill! Our team began by sweeping the road and shoulder of all debris from the accident. From there, we used our environmental truck, vac trailer and flatbed truck for oil spill recovery and fuel spill recovery in the ditch. Pro-Enviro also used other specialized equipment, including containment socks, absorbent pads and the vac trailer, to ensure we cleaned this fuel spill meticulously.
All in all, this spill recovery included the clean-up of 1,900 gallons of mixed contaminated soil and liquid! Pro-Enviro was happy to report that all debris and contaminated soil were cleaned up at the scene and disposed of safely and properly!
Time for Soil Samples
It’s a necessary part of the job to take soil samples whenever there is a spill. Pro-Enviro’s team takes soil samples before the fuel spill is cleaned and after. It’s through testing that we can ensure there are no unsafe contaminants left in the soil or at the accident scene. Only after soil samples are taken are we pack up our trucks and equipment and return to our shop. Here, our trucks and equipment receive reconditioning before going back out for another job.
Box Truck Recovery with Pro-Tow
In this accident, there was more than just the spill recovery to attend to. Pro-Tow came in to perform a box truck recovery on the cab that had fallen into the ditch. In this case, Pro-Tow used an HD Rotating Crane to ensure full recovery of the box truck and prevent further damage to it. From there, Pro-Tow’s team decided the best course of action was to use a 12-inch HD strap on the rear of the box to lift it back to the road. After setting up a two-line configuration on the box truck’s front wheels to get it back on the road, the truck was ready for Pro-Tow to tow it away!
