Back in September 2019, Team Pro-Enviro responded to a call regarding a jackknifed semi-truck and trailer in Federal Way, Washington. Unfortunately, the truck had crashed into a guard rail on Interstate 5, causing a widespread diesel fuel and engine oil spill.
We estimate that over 200 gallons of hazardous motor vehicle fluids spilled on the scene. Needless to say, this required significant fuel spill cleanup and recovery.
Semi-Truck Fuel Spill Near Waterways
When we arrived at the scene, we noticed a drainage ditch contaminated by the fuel and oil spill. Spills near water drainage are a big problem! It’s vital to contain any spills that can run into storm drains or contaminate waterways. We worked hard to contain it quickly and conducted an effective fuel spill cleanup of that drainage ditch and the surrounding area.
What We Use for Spill Recovery
When fuel is on the road, we use a special absorbent material on the spill. This absorbent is made from chemically modified and recycled cellulose fibers and causes the hazardous fuel and oil to biodegrade while absorbing it. It stops that hazardous material from getting into the soil or water sources and allows us to clean and dispose of it properly.
Pro-Tow Hauls Off the Truck and Trailer
Once Pro-Enviro contained the semi-truck fuel spill, our Pro-Tow division was able to lift the tractor off the guardrail. Then, they safely hooked it up to a heavy-duty tow truck and removed it from the scene.
We continued with the semi-truck fuel spill cleanup, which included cleaning the soil, ditch, roadway, and debris. In addition, we moved the concrete guardrails back to their original position. Then, we cleared the scene, brought our equipment back to our site to be reconditioned and submitted the paperwork for the job.
