We received a request for a cleanup on the corner of W. Valley Hwy and S. 277th Street in Kent, WA. A tractor that had spilled 30 gallons of diesel into the ditch. Our team responded with an Environmental Spill Response Vehicle, class E-truck equipped with a mobile evacuator trailer, spill barrels, and other necessary equipment.
Spill Cleanup
At the scene, we worked quickly to set up a road and shoulder closure kit so our team could handle the spill safely. Once the road was safely closed, our team got to work with the spill cleanup. We set up the evacuator trailer and used it to clean any standing liquid and miscellaneous debris in the ditch.
We also removed 3-4 inches of mud and soil from the surface in a 60 plus span around the incident. Once that was handled, we used water to flush both sides of the ditch and ensure that no contaminating fluids or debris was left behind.
Cleanup from the Cleanup
We called it only after our team was sure that the cleanup and spill response was complete and that the soil and contaminated surrounding area were clean again. We then collected all our equipment and returned from Kent to the storage yard. With facilities closed for the day, we stored the collected waste, debris, and soil samples until we could manifest things the following day.
As always, we cleaned up and recalibrated our equipment so we would be ready for the next job. This proactive preparedness ensures our equipment remains in top condition, and is always ready for the next spill cleanup or accident recovery.
As in any environmental cleanup, our team worked efficiently and with dutiful attention to the smallest details to ensure a safe and clean result.
