We received a call about a hydraulic fluid spill incident at the Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Our spill recovery team quickly headed to the location with the necessary Pro-Enviro equipment and assessed the situation to make a plan.
We first laid down absorbent materials to contain what had already spilled and then formed a more detailed spill response plan. The driver used a special fluid carried only by his shop, so he did not need a fluid top off. We spread out more absorbent materials and covered all exposed hydraulic fluid.
Our team then turned to the truck, carefully cleaning it and the trailer of any oils before we had it moved from the spot. We continued our spill response cleaning efforts as the spill had spread over a much wider area.
Perimeter Set Up and Continued Spill Recovery
The spill had spread out over the parking lot area, which during the spill recovery process, people continued to walk through the site. We had to stop and take the time to set up a clear perimeter using construction cones to mark the area to control foot traffic. Once done, we continued our spill recovery to the property owner’s satisfaction.
After Team Pro-Enviro thoroughly cleaned the area, we collected the absorbent materials and placed them in debris containment containers. We handled the necessary paperwork for spill response for the day and returned to the yard for now.
The next day, we returned to the location to collect all the spent debris and properly dispose of it as per the Department of Ecology requirements. As with any job handled by our trusty professionals, safety and care are our top priorities. Once the site got the all-clear call, our job was finished, and things returned to normal once more at the Sacred Heart Medical Center.
