In this incident, on January 15, 2022, a truck and trailer flipped during an ice storm near Sprague, WA. Sodium Hydroxide spilled during the incident, so Team Pro-Enviro had to handle the job quickly.
We set out for the scene of the accident and, once there, did a scene assessment. Then, once we had a plan, we set to work on the spill recovery.
Safety Comes First with Every Spill Recovery

Hazardous Material Recovery: What it Means
Sodium hydroxide is a highly corrosive material that can be combustible if dissolved in water. When it is dissolved, it creates a large amount of heat that can cause combustion and all kinds of dangerous problems. We understand the risks, so we act quickly to clean up such hazardous spills.
With spills such as these, our team starts by containing the spill area. Containment keeps everyone safe but also ensures the spill doesn’t spread. We also use absorbents that won’t react to the spill. From there, we either shovel or sweep the sodium hydroxide and contain it for disposal. We then flush the spill area, contain the runoff and finalize the spill recovery cleanup.
