If there is a fuel or oil spill at the scene of an accident, Team Pro-Enviro will be there to ensure spill containment and cleanup. This was the case in this semi-truck accident recovery on January 7, 2022.
Jackknifed Semi-Truck Needs a Tow
Pro-Enviro was called to the scene of an accident with a semi-truck near Davenport, WA. The roads were icy, and the truck lost control and slammed into the ditch. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) needed assistance with a Rotating Crane-Style HD Wrecker.
Upon arrival, we immediately began preparing our equipment for the semi-truck accident recovery. The operation presented unique challenges, necessitating the use of a rim sling on the trailer bogies and a strap on the rear axle. As we realigned the truck with the trailer, we discovered a fuel leak from the tractor. This was a problem that needed spill containment and spill recovery!
Fuel Spill Containment First
Before doing anything else, it was critical to contain the spill. Team Pro-Enviro ensured the fuel tank was patched so no more fuel could spill into the snowy ditch. Furthermore, we didn’t want to create a trail of leaking fuel once we started to move the truck! Once the team completed the spill containment and cleaned up the ditch, we could continue to move the truck and trailer and clear the scene.
Spill Cleanup Required, Big and Small
This fuel spill wasn’t significant, but it still required cleanup. Pro-Enviro is equipped with supplies and machinery to properly remove contaminated soil and materials to protect the environment. However, truck drivers and operators should be equipped with a spill kit in the vehicle. That way, they can handle minor spill containment and cleanup to prevent damage and lessen the need for extensive and expensive fuel spill recovery.
Spill kits include granule absorbent pads, pillows, socks, or powder that can absorb spills. The supplies can then be properly disposed of according to legislation requirements. In addition, a spill kit will include sufficient PPE for handling minor spills.
