Mushrooms Down with Flipped Trailer
In November 2021, Team Pro-Tow and Pro-Enviro were called to the scene of an accident involving a semi-truck and trailer that had tipped over. The trailer was loaded with a mushroom product that needed cargo recovery. But first, we had to deal with the flipped-over vehicle and trailer. Once we got that trailer ready to roll, our team was fast to recover the mushroom cargo and get it reloaded.
Flipping Trailers Requires Equipment and Know-How
We used lifting bags along its side to get this trailer right-side up. With the trailer flat on its side, getting rigging safely around it wasn’t possible. When you crane lift something of that size, the rigging has to be correctly installed and balanced to reduce or eliminate further damage to the unit.
Using inflatable lifting bags is the best solution in cases like these. Once the bags were in place, we inflated them, and it started to lift the trailer. Then, we could get our rigging around the unit to complete the lift and get the trailer and truck back on its wheels. Then, we could complete the cargo recovery and get those mushrooms in order!
Thankfully, there were no gas tank or oil leaks in this case, so the scene did not require a motor vehicle spill response.
Semi-Truck and Cargo Recovery Save the Day
Swift cargo recovery and load shift services are essential to the transport industry. First, it helps eliminate financial loss. Cargo is valuable, and quick recovery helps protect this value by preventing further damage or loss. Second, late or lost deliveries can be costly to the transport company and, in some cases, disrupt the supply chain.
In addition, quick cargo recovery can help reduce:
- Road hazards and traffic delays when there is an accident.
- Environmental risk if the type of cargo is hazardous to the ecosystem.
- Liability and legal issues to the trucking company and driver, ensuring that any obstruction or hazards on the roadway are moved promptly.
- Driver and fleet downtime causes schedule delays, work disruptions and costs money!
Fast cargo recovery also ensures your trucking company maintains its positive reputation. People understand accidents happen, but you’ll earn customer trust and satisfaction if you can remediate it quickly. It will also boost the public’s perception of your company, showing that you’re professional, responsible and fast-acting in emergencies.
