In this incident, on May 30th, 2021, A semi-truck and trailer driving through a local building and supply store parking lot left a huge mess when it leaked diesel fuel. The leaking truck left a stream of diesel along the front of the building. The stream of fuel extended through the parking lot, the drive and down the street.
This spill was a big mess but the spill recovery not a problem for our skilled Team Pro-Enviro.
Fuel Spill Cleanup
Our team left for the scene with special containers, transport trucks and absorbent materials to handle the work. Once we arrived, we worked quickly by first containing the spill. Next, we placed special containers around the damaged truck to contain the spill and stop further spread. Then, we used absorbents on the spilled fuel and began the detailed work of cleaning this widespread mess. Finally, team Pro-Enviro completed the job when the entire parking lot, driveway, and contaminated street were clean and clear.
Spill Recovery
We noted a nearby storm drain during our cleanup process, which meant our team needed to be extra careful to contain the spill. Storm drains are different from sewer lines which carry waste and wastewater to a treatment facility. Instead, a storm drain takes the water directly to nearby streams, rivers and lakes.
The risk there is that any fuel spill gets into the drain and gets whisked off to these natural areas. The contamination can be detrimental to local animal life and the environment, so it’s always our top priority to avoid that situation. Plus, cleaning a storm drain can be very expensive for the customer and in some instances, there can be a fine. That’s why anytime a storm drain is near a fuel spill cleanup; we always make sure to block off and protect the drain. That way, we protect our customers and the area and keep our environment clean and safe.
An extensive––but well handled––fuel spill cleanup complete!
